Mel Soares has owned Mel Soares Painting since 1990. Joe Segale, his foreman and his cousin, has been with him for 10 years. Sylvia, who is like a daughter to Mel, is their color consultant. These relationships indicate what kind of business Mel runs: Customers are truly treated like family.

Ever the diplomat, if a customer insists on a color that Mel thinks isn’t right, he’ll apply some of the paint and then ask the customer to come sit with him and look at the color in a different light.

Mel is very proud of the hundreds of homes
they’ve painted for the City of San Jose Housing Rehabilitation Program. Mel and his crew perform remarkable transformations on these homes, which are very rundown before they begin, and he finds it very gratifying to see how thrilled people are with the result—often so thrilled that they’re brought to tears.

Mel Soares Painting prefers working on residences and prefers repainting to new construction. This is an honest company that doesn’t take shortcuts.
